This publication is a joint effort between the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES). It aims to enrich the current discourse on international trade and trade corridors. It includes two reports: the first report, prepared by ORF, discusses the connectivity between India and Europe via the Middle East as a scene-setter to explain why connectivity projects are worth investing in. The second report, starting on page 68 and prepared by the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies, arguing for Egypt’s essential inclusion as a key member of this new India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), through presenting the IMEC-Egypt proposal, which offers numerous advantages, especially given Egypt’s readily available railway infrastructure from Alexandria and along the Red Sea, in addition to the Suez Canal, which all parties agree is the shortest and most cost-effective corridor for international trade.
