At a time the Egyptian economy was steadily recovering from the effects of the global economic crisis and subsequent slowdown it was soon hit by an even bigger crisis following the outbreak of Egypt’s popular uprising in January 2011. Prior to these turbulent days, most economic indicators were showing positive signs, but the outlook of the economy soon changed in the wake of the unrest.
