The launch of the National Strategy for Population and Development in 2014 was preceded by introducing an article in the Egyptian Constitution 2014, stipulating the commitment of the State to implement a population program, for the first time in the history of Egyptian constitutions. However, in spite of the great attention given to the overpopulation problem in Egypt, official data indicate that the results achieved so far have been poor. This prompted the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies to analyse all aspects of this problem, aiming to identify the gaps in the current system and the necessary mechanisms to address them in light of international best practices.
